20 Months Big!

Someone is getting big at our house. ..and it's not just me and Philip after all the delicious Christmas and Valentine's treats that we've been surrounded by! Addie had a follow up appointment with the GI this week, on her 17 month corrected birthday, so I have updated stats!

Weight:  22.22 pounds according to the nurse!
Height:  30.5 inches! She's grown almost 2 inches in the last month! This puts her on the growth chart now for both height and weight for her actual age. ..BIG DEAL!!
Clothes:  Still in 18 - 24 months, but I'm starting to buy a few 2T shirts as I'm doing her spring / summer shopping.
PT/OT:  We are in our second set of braces. The first ones were not a good fit, so the orthotist remade them. PT is focused on helping her adjust to those and helping her learn to walk independently. The braces are a work in progress and are still pretty exhausting for us and for Addie. We're up to 6.5 hours / day now and should be in them full time early next week. OT is working on getting her to crawl onto and off of the couch and squatting and standing to pick up and work with smaller objects. Addie has met all of her 6 month goals for PT 2 months early - go little rock star, go!!
Speech:  Addie has several signs now! She can sign "more", "want", "all done", "help", and our favorite is "elephant" complete with sound effects (when she feels like it)! I had no idea how cute children's signs could be. ..they all adapt them differently to make them work for where their motors skills are at, and it's just precious. It's the signed equivalent of dropping letters in speech, and it's just so darn cute! She's back to saying "mama" and "bye-bye" more consistently, and I'm doing my best to keep her aids on her longer / more often during the day. This is the year of hearing and speech since our hero is going to walk independently (woohoo!!!!!!!), so I'm just going to have to find some extra focus and energy to keep those aids in her ears. Her receptive speech / understanding is amazing. She can follow most simple directions and identify items that we use day to day. She's just too busy to be bothered with actually talking back, which is fine. She does everything in her own Addie time.

She also gave up her overnight feedings this month - which means, in theory, more sleep for all of us since we don't have to stay up until 12:30 to start her overnight pump. ..but the reason we gave it up is that she's tossing and turning so much at night that she was getting tangled in her tubing.. so we're actually up more during the night and earlier in the morning now. On the positive side of things, we've gone to bed 6 times now before midnight for the first time since she came home over a year ago!
Eyes:  Still patching 8 - 10 hours / day. Addie has decided that this is part of life, thank goodness, and doesn't fight us on the patches now unless we aren't paying attention to her, and she doesn't have hearing aids to pull out..
Hearing Aids:  See Speech above.
This month Addie loves:  Moving! Always! Even in her sleep. ..which makes for some entertaining and sleepless nights.. She loves munching on Goldfish crackers! She doesn't eat a lot of them, but she is voluntarily putting them in her mouth and biting down on them!! She also loves milk! She prefers to drink out of my Tervis tumbler, but she has her own cup that she drinks out of some, too. She is enjoying her knob puzzles and putting the large plastic coins in her piggy bank. Peekaboo!! She also loves standing all by herself. She will even push your hand away if she doesn't want your help. If you say "Stand tall" she knows it's time to try to let go and stand on her own, too. She's brilliantly smart! She loves to give sweet kisses! She also loves chasing me or Philip through the house either in her walker or crawling, cackling the entire time. I will cherish these memories forever..

Prayer Requests:

  • We're on the downhill slide of RSV / Flu season. ..it's been a rough one all around us, but thus far we've managed to stay healthy. Please pray we make it through these last few months healthy (and sane!).
  • That Addie's eye has continued to improve. We go back on March 19th, and my fears of another impending surgery to help tighten her eye muscles are starting to amp back up.
  • That we all continue to adjust to her braces. They have been by far the toughest new accessory we've had to bring into our world.

Starting to let go and stand!

She's so excited! Look at me, mama!!

New braces..

Munching on Goldfish!

Sweet kisses!

Peek-a-boo!! Both eyes are covered!

No patch, no braces, it's time to party!

Drawing on the iPad on Valentine's Day - with her first ponytail!!

Whaaaattttt.....
