Just a quick update since our girl has had a really good night! She officially weighs 3 pounds and is 2 months old today! We were excited to go into the hospital last night because we were going to get to put her in clothes for the first time, but we were greeted with a "Now don't freak out" from her nurse.. .she was breathing on her own! She had decided she needed some attention and pulled her canula down around her neck and had pulled her feeding tube out earlier in the evening.. . So, needless to say, clothes were put on the backburner for the night and we just stopped to take in her precious face. Her NG tube was back in by the time we got there, but her sweet nurse had taken several pictures just after bath time so we could see all of her precious face for the 1st time ever. Funny thing is, Philip & I had taken in Gator blankets for her bed the day before, and this was the 1st time she had slept on them.. .so of course Philip credits the blankets with her progress. :) Whatever it takes! It's amazing how different she looks without the tubes going into her nose. She was smiling the whole time when we first got there; much happier without the air pressure from the cannula in her nose. So, she's made it over 12 hours without it. They generally say that if they make it through the 1st 24 hours, they'll be ok without it, but most don't make it on their first attempt. Even if she goes back on it, at least she's had a few hours of freedom.
She still feels some after effects of the tap, but obviously she is doing well. We are still praying the fluid build up on her brain will resolve itself sooner rather than later. We love that she's gaining weight but every gram she gains puts her closer to a shunt surgery. We're also praying that her eyes stay Stage 1 again this Tuesday.. we would love to have one less hurdle to jump.
Month 1 was excruciating, Month 2 has seen a lot of progress and improvement, and we're praying Month 3 is even better and starts to bring mentions of "home" possibly sometime in Month 4.
Love ~ Philip & Rachel

Go little gator go!!!!!! Loves and kisses!
