Sliding is LOTS of fun!
Addie's birthday is fast approaching, and for a variety of reasons (super busy May, Addie was in the hospital for almost a week to kick the month off, preparing to pay for most of Addie's therapies out of pocket starting June 1, and Philip has a crazy busy work schedule) we decided to just have one small family birthday party for Addie this year. It's so hard not having a big one in Knoxville, but I just couldn't figure out the logistics and decided that if it was just going to be stressful, we would skip it this year. **Don't worry NICU family!!! We're still coming to see you all later this week. We can't have a birthday and not see you all and bring a few treats by.**
As per usual, it was chaotic and crazy as only family adventures can be, but it was most importantly filled with love and lots of great memories and fun. I love that we can have these family gatherings at Mom & Dad's farm. ..you can take the girl off the farm (and she'll love the convenience of city living and proximity to Target!!), but you can't take the farm and love of open spaces out of her heart. Fresh air and that South Greene wind are hard to beat after a winter spent cooped up inside.
This year's party was appropriately Minnie Mouse themed, and, while I still don't think she "gets" that the party is actually for her, she had a great time and loved seeing Minnie's face everywhere. She got lots of great gifts from everyone, but she was far too busy playing and exploring to bother with opening gifts. I'm not going to lie. ..as awkward as it is when she doesn't stop to help open presents, I'm pretty proud that she would rather love on people and play with them when she gets the chance than focus on getting new "things". I know that will eventually change, but for now, I'm a pretty big fan.
Here is the photo recap:
Love seeing her play in my old room. ..
Decorations - perfectly pink and polka dotted!
"Big Minnie" hanging out in the high chair.
Playing with Aunt Chelle and the nativity scene.
This girl loves her some Baby Jesus!
Everyone needs at least one Dairy Queen cake in their lifetime.
She looks so big holding this hamburger!
She took pretend bites and ate a few pinches of meat. ..HUGE progress!
She fed herself some ice cream cake and didn't make a huge mess this year!
(She was a GREAT eater for this party - lots of chips, pinches of hot dog & hamburger, and some cake!)
Sharing with Daddy.
Still munching - "Mowa chips, p'ease!!"
Sliding pro!
Her favorite thing from this party is a toss up between the balloons and the slide..
Annual birthday party photo op!
(She actually wore her ears. ..thanks for stretching them out for her Aunt Chelle!)
One of my happy places. ..my mountains in the background and a warm breeze blowing.
Out for a walk - dirt road and mountains in the background are pretty hard to beat.
