This is just a quick update. Today went a (tiny) little bit better! We changed up 2 things and they seemed to help. For starters, I used a bigger patch the eye doc sent us home with as a sample. I also put the patch on just as she was waking up from her mid morning catnap as my friend and fellow imom Melissa suggested. She was right!! Addie didn't seem to have quite as much of an issue with the patch as she just was upset she couldn't see. She pulled at it every couple of minutes instead of constantly / every 30 seconds like yesterday. Small victories!! I even caught a few smiles (see picture below). The biggest challenge is keeping her busy / distracted. She has a hard time focusing on her toys, so she is paying even less attention to them than she was before the patch. Thus far we have wound up carrying her constantly except when she eats. I'm going to have some serious mommy muscles by the time we are done with this! I won't be chronicling every day but did want to let you know that today was a bit better! Granted, I had Philip to help me tag team her today, so I'm not sure how our work week will go next week.. But we will manage!
Check out her eye bling!!

WOO HOO!! Also, I see the gap you were talking about by her nose and that is normal, especially since she is so tiny. I use that as mt "handle" to take if off because it is a nice starting point. PRECIOUS!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!! That was a huge help. ..I was afraid I was defeating the whole purpose by having a gap but didn't have the heart (or the talent!) to take it off and try to do any better.
DeleteLove it! We love the ortopad patches! She is adorable - so glad you got a few smiles today.
ReplyDeleteHi I am Melissa & Nicole's aunt from Memphis. I just read your blog about sweet Addie and I can't begin to tell you what a special Mom you are. Addie is adorable and you and your family will always be in my prayers. Remember God never gives you more than you can handle and you and your husband have to be remarkable people for God to have chosen you for this task; taking care of one of His most special angels.
ReplyDeleteHi, Melissa & Nicole's aunt! I know you know this, but your nieces are pretty amazing! I so enjoyed them in college, and they have been a life saver the last week or so! Thank you so, so much for your kind words and your prayers. I still think God chose the wrong people for this task, but we do our best every day. :)
DeleteGirlfriend is adorable, love her! Easton and Azalea are 22 months now... they would probably looks past the patch (cuz that's a normal thing in our household) and point to her face and say, Star! Heart! ;) This journey takes time for everyone involved, hang in there!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I think Easton & Azalea are ADORABLE!!! I love that they would just check out the bling on her patch. ..love their hearts!! You aren't kidding about this being a journey. ..I am still trying to figure out which way is up, but we just keep plodding along. :-) Thanks so much for the encouragement!
DeleteWhat a beautiful baby girl! It's Emily Horton from Tri-Delta! Melissa told me about the patching and I am so proud of you for undertaking the challenge, IMoms rock! I have a daughter too name Stella! If you are ever in Atlanta we would love for you to stay with us.
ReplyDeleteYou are obviously an amazing Mom! :-)
I posted on your blog earlier, but I don't know exactly how all of this works and just wanted you to know that I LOVE your blog, and I think Stella is adorable! You are an awesome mommy!! Thanks so much for the encouragement and for checking out my blog. ..it's mostly my rambling and it has therapeutic properties for me, but I hope it will help someone else along the way.
